Resilience

💪 Building Resilience in Children 💪

Resilience is the ability to cope with challenges, adapt to change, and bounce back from setbacks. It’s an important life skill that helps children grow in confidence, independence, and wellbeing.

Why resilience matters:
Children with strong resilience are more likely to:

  • 🌟 Keep trying, even when things feel difficult

  • 🧠 Problem-solve and find new ways forward

  • 😊 Manage stress and emotions more effectively

  • 👥 Build positive friendships and relationships

  • 🎯 Stay motivated in learning and personal goals

⚠️ When resilience is low, children may:

  • ❌ Give up quickly when tasks feel hard

  • 😟 Avoid new experiences or challenges

  • 😢 Feel overwhelmed by mistakes or setbacks

  • 🚪 Withdraw from school or social activities

  • 📉 Struggle with confidence, self-esteem, and mental health

👩‍🏫 How we support resilience in school:

  • Encouraging a “have a go” attitude and celebrating effort 🎉

  • Teaching growth mindset – learning from mistakes is part of success 📘

  • Using problem-solving activities and teamwork tasks 🤝

  • Helping children set small, achievable goals 🏅

  • Providing emotional support and check-ins 💬

🏡 How you can build resilience at home:

  • Let your child try things independently, even if mistakes happen 🧩

  • Talk about times you’ve overcome challenges and what you learned 🗣️

  • Praise effort, persistence, and problem-solving – not just results 💖

  • Encourage healthy coping strategies (exercise, hobbies, relaxation) 🌿

  • Teach that setbacks are opportunities to grow, not failures 🌈
