Climate Action

At High Halden Church of England Primary School, we believe that caring for God’s creation is a vital part of our role as a Church school and as global citizens. Rooted in our Christian values — especially ๐Ÿ’ Generosity, ๐ŸŒˆ Hope, and ๐Ÿง  Wisdom — we teach children to love and protect the natural world.

We are committed to taking climate action seriously through our curriculum, school environment, and everyday practices.

๐Ÿ“˜ Learning Through the Curriculum

We weave environmental education through multiple subjects, helping children to understand:

  • ๐ŸŒฑ The importance of sustainability

  • ๐Ÿ’จ The causes and effects of climate change

  • ๐ŸŒพ How to protect wildlife and natural habitats

  • ๐Ÿ” The role of recycling, reusing, and reducing waste

  • ๐Ÿ’ง The need to conserve water and energy

From Science and Geography to RE and PSHE, pupils explore the beauty and fragility of the Earth — and their power to make a difference.

๐Ÿซ Taking Action in School

We encourage children to become active stewards of creation through hands-on, practical action:

โ™ป๏ธ Eco-friendly initiatives — recycling, composting, and waste reduction
๐ŸŒผ Outdoor learning — using our school grounds and local environment as natural classrooms
๐ŸŒณ Gardening and wildlife projects — planting flowers, growing vegetables, building bug hotels
๐Ÿ”‹ Energy awareness — turning off lights and devices when not in use
๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ Sustainable travel — promoting walking, cycling, and car-sharing

๐ŸŒฟ Using and Respecting Our Environment

We use our beautiful rural setting to help children connect with nature in a meaningful way:

  • ๐Ÿงบ Outdoor prayer and reflection spaces

  • ๐Ÿ”Ž Nature trails and bug hunts

  • ๐Ÿƒ Forest School-inspired activities

  • ๐Ÿง˜ Mindful time spent outdoors to support wellbeing and gratitude for creation

๐Ÿ™Œ Our Mission

By encouraging curiosity, compassion, and responsibility, we help our pupils grow into climate-conscious citizens who understand that even small actions can lead to big change.

As a school rooted in faith, we stand by the belief that it is our duty to care for God’s world and ensure a greener, fairer future for everyone.
