Our Curriculum
πΏ Our School Vision
At High Halden Church of England Primary School, we take pride in creating a nurturing environment where every learner is loved, valued, and known as a unique individual. Rooted in God’s love, we provide rich experiences and a strong sense of belonging, enabling all children to grow, flourish, and bear fruit.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.”
— John 15:5
β¨ Our Curriculum Intent
With our Christian vision at the heart of all we do, we have worked closely with children, families, staff and the wider community to design a curriculum that reflects our rural setting, values and aspirations.
Our goal is to ensure that every child leaves High Halden equipped with the skills, knowledge, and character to succeed in life beyond our school gates.
We aim to nurture growth in three key areas:
π Curiosity & Creativity
-
π¨ Enriching, first-hand experiences
-
π‘ Inspirational, enquiry-led teaching
-
π A broad, active, and engaging curriculum
π‘ Strong Sense of Community
-
π³ Learning rooted in our beautiful rural village
-
π€ Working with local residents and community groups
-
π Celebrating diversity and inclusion
π Character Development
-
πͺ Building resilience, confidence, and independence
-
π― Encouraging aspirations and a strong moral compass
-
βοΈ Guided by our Christian values in all that we do
We also believe it is vital that children experience British culture and develop the ability to make informed choices in an ever-changing world. Our curriculum is designed to provide these opportunities in meaningful, age-appropriate ways.
π Reading, Writing & Mathematics
At High Halden, we prioritise literacy and numeracy as the foundations for all learning. We aim to ensure all children are:
-
π Literate – confident readers and communicators
-
β Numerate – secure and capable with numbers
These core skills open doors to future learning and opportunities.
π Our Implementation
We believe that every child has a right to a great education — and that learning should be a joyful experience.

π Our Thematic Approach to Learning
At High Halden Primary School, we offer a curriculum that is rich, purposeful, and connected. Each term, we follow an overarching theme that links most subjects, helping children make meaningful connections in their learning.
These themes are usually driven by History or Geography, providing a strong foundation for pupils to explore the world around them — past and present — while inspiring curiosity, critical thinking and creativity.
