Forest School
At High Halden Primary School, we are incredibly lucky to have access to a beautiful, diverse school site that includes a large field, a woodland area, a wildlife garden, a pond, and a purpose-built outdoor classroom. These spaces are at the heart of our Forest School ethos, providing rich, hands-on learning experiences for every child.
🌿 What is Forest School?
Forest School is a child-centred, inspirational learning process that offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions in the natural environment. It supports play, exploration, and risk-taking, helping children to develop confidence, resilience, and a deeper connection with the world around them.
💚 Why We Believe in Forest School
We believe every child should experience the freedom, wonder, and challenge of outdoor learning. Forest School complements our curriculum and school values by:
🔍 Promoting Curiosity & Exploration
Children are free to explore, question, and experiment in a safe, supportive environment.
🧠 Boosting Mental Health & Wellbeing
Nature has proven benefits for emotional regulation, stress relief and mindfulness.
🤝 Fostering Teamwork & Communication
Children work together on real-world tasks like building shelters or cooking, improving cooperation and language.
💪 Developing Resilience & Independence
Taking measured risks helps children grow in confidence, problem-solving and perseverance.
🎯 Enhancing Key Life Skills
Practical skills like knot tying, whittling, and fire safety build focus, coordination and responsibility.
