Computing

💻 "Computing is not about computers anymore. It is about living."

Nicholas Negroponte

🧠 Computing at High Halden Primary School

At High Halden, we understand that in an ever-evolving digital world, children must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to thrive beyond the classroom. Our computing curriculum is designed to prepare pupils for life in a technologically advanced society, fostering digital confidence, responsibility, and creativity.

We follow the Kapow Primary Computing Curriculum, a carefully sequenced programme that ensures progression from EYFS to Year 6. This structured scheme helps develop pupils’ knowledge across three key strands:

  • 🧩 Computer Science – understanding how computers work and learning to code

  • 💼 Information Technology – using digital tools to create, present and analyse content

  • 🔐 Digital Literacy – becoming safe, responsible users of online technology

🧭 How Our Curriculum Is Structured

The Kapow Primary scheme is broken down into units that build year-on-year, allowing pupils to revisit and deepen their skills over time. The curriculum is:

  • Progressive – Skills develop from basic functions to complex coding and data handling

  • 📚 Engaging – Real-world tasks, such as making games, web pages, and digital art

  • 🛡️ Safe – E-safety and responsible digital behaviour are taught every year

🌍 Preparing for the Future

By the time pupils leave High Halden, they are digitally literate, able to safely navigate online spaces, solve problems through code, and express ideas using a wide range of digital tools. Computing at High Halden is not just about using devices — it's about understanding the digital world, being creative, staying safe, and being ready for what’s next.
