💚 Nurture & Wellbeing
At High Halden Church of England Primary School, we are proud to be part of the National Nurturing Schools Programme – a whole-school approach that embeds a nurturing culture and ethos throughout everything we do. This supports the Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) of our whole school community, ensuring that children's emotional wellbeing is valued as much as their academic learning.
🧠 Zones of Regulation
All classrooms now have a Zones of Regulation display or area to support emotional understanding and regulation.
-
🌈 Reception pupils begin with The Colour Monster to learn about feelings and how emotions affect the body.
-
🎨 As children move up the school, they begin using the Zones of Regulation, identifying emotions with colour cues and learning strategies to self-regulate independently or with adult support.
-
👩🏫 Staff model this too – helping children see how emotions are a natural part of life and how we can manage them together.
🔄 Restorative Conversations
We use Restorative Conversations as a key part of helping children reflect on behaviour choices.
-
🧩 Our Visual Support Tool guides pupils through the process by asking:
-
What happened?
-
How did it make others feel?
-
What can be done to make it right?
-
What can I do differently next time?
-
This structured, calm approach supports emotional growth, responsibility, and positive relationships.
