  • Nativity Performances

Mon 11 Dec 2017 Mrs Burlton

The children wowed the audience this afternoon with their impressive singing, acting and dancing skills.

Ducklings and Robins told the story of Whoops-a-Daisy Angel. The delightful story of a disorganised but lovable angel who is chosen to show the way to Bethlehem. The crowd were enchanted and charmed by the magical performance.

Eagles and Owls took to the stage with Lights, Camel, Action! It was a jam-packed cast of nativity celebrities as they celebrated Jesus' birth with a dazzling dance show. There was a marvellous variety of songs and spectacular dancing which got the audience fully engaged.

  • DT Day

Sun 05 Nov 2017 Mrs Winter

A huge, heartfelt thank you to the High Halden bell-ringers that so kindly gave up their time to explain how the bells work in the church.

The children learnt how bells are made and the history of the church bells. The children were then treated to a demonstration.

Back in school the children used this learning as part of their DT projects. Each age group had a different focus dependent upon their curriculum requirements. In Ducklings the children designed and made churches from cardboard boxes. In Robins the children designed churches using K’nex and Lego. In KS2 the children worked in mixed age groups to design,, make and review a design for a church tower with a working pulley system to ring the bell!! They had great fun using wood, saws and glue guns!!

  • Diwali

Fri 20 Oct 2017 Mrs Burlton

Today we celebrated the Hindu festival of Diwali. The morning began with Mrs Winter introducing Diwali to the whole school.

    She told us that:

    • Diwali is the main festival for people of the Hindu religion.
    • It is called the ‘festival of light’.
    • It celebrates the victory of good over evil – light over dark.
    • Diwali is held on the darkest night in the Hindu month of Kartika (October/November).
    • It is held on the night of a new moon (when there is no moon is the sky – the darkest night).
    • The date of the festival changes each year because the cycle of the moon is not in line with the months.
    • This year, the date of the festival is Thursday 19th October.

Each class took part in three workshops including traditional Indian dancing, Rangoli patterns and making Diva lamps. For lunch we enjoyed a spectacular feast!
