Along with all maintained schools in Kent, we follow the overall aims for Religious Education (R.E.) as set out in the Kent Agreed Syllabus.

 

Our aim is to provide the children with a broad and balanced view of five world religions: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Sikhism. This begins in the Foundation Stage Curriculum in which the children are encouraged to show sensitivity to others’ needs and feelings and have an awareness of similarities and differences between themselves and others. From Year 1 through to Year 6, we compare the beliefs and practices of each religion, looking at similarities as well as differences, and consider the effect this has on how people live their lives.

 

We plan in opportunities to celebrate the diversity of religious belief and practice, encouraging the children to ask questions to inform, clarify and develop their own beliefs and values whilst valuing the right of others to hold different beliefs. The children are encouraged to develop a range of general attitudes towards RE; a sense of curiosity, sensitivity and respect for the feelings of other people.

 

As part of their RE experience, the children have opportunities to visit local places of worship and we invite local religious leaders and organisations who work within our local community into school to share their beliefs and experiences with the children.
